Dr. Ruan O’Donnell will give a talk on the life of Robert Emmet in the St. Francis Room of the United Irish Cultural Center on Sunday, September 15, 2024 @ 3pm. Tea and coffee to be served. This is a free event.
Originally from Dublin, Dr. O’Donnell received a BA and MA (Major Thesis) from UCD and a PhD from the Australian National University. He has lived and worked in Limerick since 1998. He is a full member of the National Union of Journalists (Freelance Branch, Dublin), Director of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and was appointed to the Universities Ireland Decade of Commemoration Committee.
Dr. O’Donnell’s research interests are the history of Irish republicanism worldwide, 1791–1998. His early research and writing focused on the United Irishmen in Ireland, Australia, Britain, France and North America. He is currently working on a number of linked projects featuring the Irish Republican Army from 1948 to 1998. The first major book arising from this new work will deal with the 'Border' or 'Resistance Campaign' of 1956–62. He is also completing a short volume on the Great Irish Famine.
His works include “Robert Emmet and the Rising of 1803”, “Robert Emmet and the Rebellion 1798”, and “Patrick Pearse: 16Lives”.
