Irish Flag Raised at San Francisco City Hall to Mark Irish Heritage and Friendship Month

On Friday, March 6, 2026, the United Irish Societies of San Francisco joined Daniel Lurie at San Francisco City Hall for the annual Irish flag-raising ceremony, officially recognizing March as Irish Heritage and Friendship Month in San Francisco.

The ceremony celebrates the deep and enduring connections between San Francisco and Ireland, honoring a vibrant community of more than 60,000 residents of Irish descent who contribute to the city’s civic and cultural life.

A special highlight of this year’s gathering will be the presence of a delegation from San Francisco’s sister city, Cork, led by Dan Boyle. Their participation underscores the longstanding friendship between the two cities.

The program will feature performances celebrating Irish culture, including dancers from the Murphy Irish Dancers and music by Celtic Voices, bringing energy and warmth to the Civic Center ceremony.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding will be ratified between University College Cork and the University of California, San Francisco, strengthening collaboration in research, education, and medical innovation.

The ceremony marks the beginning of San Francisco’s St. Patrick’s season, celebrating the enduring ties between Ireland and the city by the Bay.
